Static vs. Dynamic Websites
At one time or another, you may have heard or read about the terms "static" and "dynamic" in reference to websites. As their definitions reveal, these terms are complete opposites, however they are not entirely accurate in describing a website.
A static website is one that does not change from web user to web user. Each person that visits a static site will see the exact same thing, no matter how they visit it and no matter what browser they are using. Typically speaking, a static website is built to be purely informational and fast so that users visiting that particular website can get the information they need quickly without any added features.
Today is a sunny day.
The sentence above represents static content. No matter which browser you look at it with and no matter how many times you visit this page, it will always say the same thing until someone changes it. On the other hand, a dynamic website is one that can change from web user to web user, making it a unique experience for each person that visits. Dynamic sites can be built from one that is fully animated, utilizing a product called Flash made by Macromedia, to one that changes its physical appearance based on the web users input. The range for what is considered a dynamic website is rapidly expanding as more and more developers are finding new ways to customize a web users visit.

CST.
Now the sentence above this paragraph represents dynamic content. If you hit the refresh button on your browser and check this line again, you will notice that the time has changed. Every time this page loads, a bit of special code tells the web server to check the current time and display it on this page.
So where does Database Development fit into all of this? Databases are one of the tools used to create dynamic websites. If you have ever shopped online, you have encountered a database-driven dynamic website. The majority of online stores use databases in the background to keep track of things like inventory in stock, prices, shipping costs and weights. Forums and blogs are also dependent on databases to keep track of memberships, postings and visitors. In a database is where all of the content is stored that changes from day to day, which in turn creates repeat visitors to a particular website.
